Lightning Preventer and Surge Protection—Double Coverage Means Complete Safety
The combination of the Lightning Preventor 2005 and surge protection provides a safety shield against lightning strikes from above as well as electrical surges that enter through underground utility, phone and cable lines. The Lightning Preventor 2005 protects from damages that may occur due to direct lightning strikes. Surge protection addresses the danger to electronics that stalks at ground level or underground.
The Preventor
The Preventor 2005 is field certified by Applied Research Labs (ARL). All components of the Preventor are dual listed by Underwriters laboratories, Inc. (UL and ARL). The Preventor 2005 protects structures from damage that may occur due to direct strikes of lightning. Its performance is guaranteed by the manufacturer for $10 million. In the 30 years that the Preventor System (Early Streamer Emission Air Terminals) has been used worldwide, there has never been a recorded instance of failure when the device was properly installed. The Preventor is an economic alternative to convential lightning protection systems.
Is the Preventor Enough?
It would be if all harmful electrical charges emanated only from above. Unfortunately, damaging electrical currents enter through underground utility systems. Power spikes and surges will cause damage to sensitive electronics such as a phone, TV, computer, etc… These electronic systems require sure protection.
Power Surges and Spikes Internally and Externally Caused
Power surges and spikes are internally induced in an industrial environment. These surges (often virtually unnoticed) degrade sensitive electronics and eventually cause failures. These “transient” voltage surges are caused by elevators, welders, air conditioners, motors, and other cyclical equipment. Copy machines and fluorescent lights are also culprits. Power surges and spikes are externally induced by power company load switching and remote lightning strikes.
Surge Protection
To assure protection of all internal and external transient sources, we recommend Total Protection Solutions by Joslyn. The TPS shield is a three step approach. Shield one is the installation of high energy devices to handle external transients generated by lightning and local switching. Shield two is the installation of devices on distribution and sub panels. This addresses the medium level internally induced transient. Shield three requires the installation of devices at the point of use. This is the last ling of defense. No surge protection manufacturer offers a performance guarantee, but when the TPS shield is installed properly it is extremely effective.
Two Separate Systems
Lightning protection and sure protection are two separate systems. When the Lightning Preventor 2005 and the TPS shield are implemented, they provide the best of defense against damages from a direct strike of lightning and transient surges. Call us today for a free survey of your facility.
Lightning Preventor is Invisibly Changing City Skylines Across America for the Better
The skyline of Sarasota glitters with graciousness and 21st century safety. Fashionably condominium towers as well as the new Ritz-Carlton Hotel are changing the profile of this charming coastal community. Also changing the city is the Lightning Preventor, which is mounted atop each of these structures. Nearly invisible, the six pound preventor casts an umbrella of protection, safeguarding structures from lightning strikes.
Look at what structures in downtown Sarasota are guarded by the Preventor 2005:
1. Tessera Condominium
2. Sarabande Condominium
3. Marina Towers Condominium
4. Ritz-Carlton Hotel
5. Renaissance Condominium
6. Sarasota Bay Club Retirement Complex
7. The Phoenix Condominium
8. The Venetian Condominium
